Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT)
EPEAT is an environmental rating system that helps purchasers evaluate, compare and select electronic products according to a
list of preferred environmental attributes. Products are rated as bronze,
silver or gold. To date, the program ranks desktop computers, notebooks, and monitors. EPEAT is currently in the process of extending its scope to televisions and imaging devices (printers, copiers, scanners, facsimiles, and multi-function devices). As of April 2009 the program's registry included 1,160 products from 33 different
manufacturers. EPEAT products
are widely available and are cost comparable with non-EPEAT registered products. Please visit http://www.epeat.net for more.
EPEAT has an Electronics
Environmental Benefits Calculator Tool that allows purchasers to calculate the
specific environmental benefits of purchasing EPEAT products (including savings
in energy, greenhouse gas and carbon emissions, virgin materials, toxic
materials, and hazardous waste generation, to name a few). The calculator is
available at: http://isse.utk.edu/ccp/projects/benefitscalculator/elecbenecalc.html.
