Call Gov Brown today to protect CA’s food
Last month, CEH and other groups delivered more than 350,000 petition signatures to Governor Brown urging him to end the use of oil wastewater on our food. Now we need your help to keep the momentum going. Today thousands of Californians are calling Governor Brown to say NO to oil wastewater on our food. Please join us by making a call today!
When you eat avocados, oranges and grapes, you’re eating crops grown in California. In fact, over a third of the country’s vegetables and two-thirds of the country’s fruits are grown in California. But Big Oil has taken advantage of California farmers’ desperate need for water and is selling them potentially toxic oil wastewater—the water that’s been used in oil operations—for irrigation. Hundreds of chemicals are used in oil operations, and some of these chemicals are known to cause cancer, kidney failure, and liver damage—and they could be in the oil wastewater that is being used on our fruits and vegetables.
Call Governor Brown today and urge him to put a stop to the use of oil wastewater for crop irrigation! Keep trying the phone number if you don’t get through the first time.
When you’re connected you can say something like:
“I’m calling the Governor because I am very upset that the state allows the use of potentially toxic oil wastewater on our food. There has never been adequate testing to ensure that our food and health is protected from the hundreds of chemicals used in oil operations, many of which have been shown to cause cancer and other serious diseases. Because of this, I urge the Governor to ensure that our food is safe to eat by prohibiting the use of oil wastewater for crop irrigation in California. Thank you.”
