“Don’t Frack My Mom” Contest
The oil and gas industry says fracking is safe. And they have a great safety record, so why shouldn’t we believe them!?!
At the Center for Environmental Health (CEH), we’re skeptical of industry’s safety claims. Willy Wonka seems skeptical too – especially when some people in communities near fracking sites have found their water is suddenly flammable!
There are many other reasons to be skeptical about the safety of fracking.
This Mother’s Day, we want to know YOUR reasons! The best new caption will win! Follow the instructions below to enter.
• Simply tweet your caption (what you would use in place of “Tell me how safe it is when my tap water catches fire”) to @4envirohealth (or post it on the CEH Facebook wall) by 5pm Pacific time on Wednesday May 8th.
• You will be entered to win a Mother’s Day gift basket from Mighty Nest!* The gift basket (photo below) includes healthy and toxic-free skincare products, a ceramic teapot, a lunch bag, an insulated water bottle, a beeswax and soy candle, and an organic cotton tea towel. We’ll send the gift bag to you just in time for Mother’s Day!

• We will notify the winner via twitter and Facebook on Thursday, May 9th.
Natural gas fracking is an inherently risky process, and mothers and children are especially at risk. Studies show that the chemicals used in fracking can cause infertility, low birth weight, birth defects, pre-term delivery, miscarriage, or other injuries to a developing baby while pregnant.
Despite dozens of studies on the health effects of chemicals used in fracking, the oil and gas industry continues to push the myth that fracking is safe.
We all know that’s not true.
This Mother’s Day, stand up for your mothers’ health! Help us tell the industry “Don’t Frack My Mom!”
