The healthcare industry is a source of both healing and harm. Hospitals are home to a number of toxic chemicals that have adverse effects on patient and staff health and safety. Center for Environmental Health works to support and strengthen hospitals in their efforts to be protectors of public health. As a leading member of Health Care Without Harm, a broad-based international campaign to address the environmental impacts of health care without compromising worker safety or patient care, we support the following goals:

Center for Environmental Health, working with the Environmental Health Coalition, eliminated lead in chili pepper and tamarind candies from Mexico. Major companies like Hershey and Mars changed their production practices, reducing another dangerous risk of lead poisoning for children here and abroad. |
