Potential Health Effects of California Oil & Gas Development

Thank you for visiting our page on the Potential Health Effects of California Oil & Gas Development. It is currently under development and we will be posting more information soon.

Watch the video recording of a panel discussion exploring the effects of the fossil fuel industry on the health of Californians.

From the fracking fields in Kern County to urban oil drilling in Los Angeles, community members are feeling the impacts of the oil and gas industry’s activities on their health. Hear personal stories of the challenges that come with living next to these drill sites and related operations and then learn the science behind these experiences.

Panelists include:

  • Martha Dina Argüello, Executive Director of Physicians for Social Responsibility – Los Angeles (PSR-LA), discusses the burden oil and gas extraction places on vulnerable communities in Los Angeles. Click here for the presentation slides.
  • Sandy Navarro, Project Coordinator for Esperanza Community Housing, addresses the community impacts of oil and gas development as well as the work she’s done with conducting health surveys in the neighborhoods of Los Angeles. Click here for the presentation slides.
